iPhone 16 Pro series to get ‘identical’ Tetraprism camera, no upgrade

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max debuted the Tetraprism camera last year. That camera offered 5x optical zoom, though it wasn’t as good as the best periscope telephoto cameras out there. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be getting that same Tetraprism camera, it seems, the identical one.

The iPhone 16 Pro series won’t deliver a Tetraprism camera upgrade, it will be identical to last year

Well, it will be a first for the smaller ‘Pro’ model, but the point is, Apple won’t be upgrading it. This information comes from Digitimes and Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known analyst who often brings us Apple-related news.

Many people were expecting some sort of improvement for that Tetraprism camera… at least for the Pro Max model. Well, that won’t be happening, as both smartphones will end up using the same setup.

If that ends up being the case, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will offer 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom. That will be a 12-megapixel camera, by the way.

Apple is tipped to bring an upgrade to the main camera, however. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to utilize a 48-megapixel camera with Sony’s IMX903 sensor, a sensor with dual-layer transistors.

Both ‘Pro’ iPhone 16 models will feature larger displays

Both of these smartphones will also end up offering larger displays than their predecessors. Instead of a 6.1-inch panel, the iPhone 16 Pro will offer a 6.3-inch display. The iPhone 16 Pro Max will offer a 6.9-inch panel, instead of a 6.7-inch one.

Both smartphones will also come with thinner bezels than their predecessors. Despite that fact, they’ll have a larger footprint compared to their predecessors. That’s not surprising considering that the displays will be 0.2 inches bigger.

All four iPhone 16 series models will arrive in September, almost certainly. That’s when Apple usually launches its new iPhones. The vanilla models won’t offer larger displays, by the way.
