This could be the design of the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2

Samsung‘s long-awaited smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, may finally go official next week. The company is expected to launch the wearable at Unpacked on July 10. In the meantime, a new patent application from the firm has sparked rumors about its successor. It shows a smart ring with a slightly different design, potentially the Galaxy Ring 2 or whatever Samsung calls the next-gen version.

A new Samsung patent potentially reveals the Galaxy Ring 2’s design

The first-gen Galaxy Ring has circular inner and outer layers. All sensors are sandwiched in between, mostly closer to the inner layer so they are in contact with the user’s skin to accurately measure health data. Samsung seems to be toying with the idea of redesigning the next model. The newly spotted patent shows a ring with a portion of the outer layer raised and flattened. The inner layer is completely circular for obvious reasons.

This design makes the ring look more ornamental. Samsung might be trying to improve the aesthetics of the Galaxy Ring so people have more reasons to buy it. A raised outer layer also creates room for a bigger battery and additional sensors. Maybe the company is mulling adding a tiny screen too. The wearable already seems to contain a temperature sensor, acceleration sensor, fingerprint sensor, and ECG measurement capabilities.

Spotted by 91Mobiles, Samsung allegedly filed this design patent in the US in May 2024. Since the Galaxy Ring was ready by then—the company first teased the wearable in January and showed it publicly at MWC 2024 in February—it could be one of the designs the Korean firm is considering for the Galaxy Ring 2. There is no way to verify, of course. Whether Samsung will adopt this design for its next smart ring, only time will tell.

The first-gen model may offer a wide range of health features

Samsung hasn’t officially revealed a lot about the Galaxy Ring. Its teaser in January was just an image, while the public exhibition in February also lacked specs and features. Thankfully, this didn’t stop leaks. The closer we get to the Unpacked, the more details have emerged via leaks. The Galaxy Ring seems to be a comprehensive health-monitoring gadget that can replace your Galaxy Watch, though you might be better off pairing the two for more accurate results. Stay tuned for the July 10 launch. The event will also bring new foldables, watches, and wireless earbuds.
