Assassin’s Creed Shadows gets world premiere trailer this week

Assassins Creed Japan Codename Red

Ubisoft has revealed the official title for Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, now known as Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and it’s set to get a world premiere trailer this week.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be set in feudal-era Japan, taking the franchise to a place that players have been begging for. While not much is known about the game so far, more details are likely to come out of the shadows in just a few days. Ubisoft says that a world premiere trailer reveal will happen on May 15 at 9AM PST. Now this will just be a cinematic trailer so there probably won’t be any actual gameplay footage. However, Ubisoft could always surprise the public and splice some in.

Confirmation of the trailer comes from Ubisoft’s official account on X, where a short clip of an Assassin’s Creed Shadows promotional installment was erected in what appears to be Osaka. It’s a clever marketing display. A giant hourglass with the top styled after a traditional Japanese roof, adorned with the iconic Assassin’s Order logo, and the game’s official title stands tall. All while a message scrolls across the front that marks the time and date of the trailer reveal. There’s also red sand slowly falling through the hourglass to count down to the trailer’s debut.

In addition to the trailer premiere, Assassin’s Creed Shadows platforms may have been revealed

The trailer isn’t the only information about the upcoming game that seems to have been discovered. A tweet from Wario64 on X features a comment that details the supposed platform availability. The tweet comment includes a screenshot of the game listing on the Ubisoft Store which states the game is coming to current-gen consoles and PC. It’ll be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The listing lacks any mention of Xbox One and erroneously mentions PS4. In the same comment thread, Wario64 references a Resetera post from X user Shinobi602 that states PS4 is not getting the game. So its listing could be a mistake on Ubisoft’s part.

The lack of PS4 or Xbox One availability lines up with a statement made by Assassin’s Creed series boss Marc-Alexis Cote. During an interview with VGC, Cote said that Assassin’s Creed Shadows would mark a shift for Ubisoft technologically and gameplay-wise as it moves into “fully next-gen” with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be available on Ubisoft+. This isn’t really a surprise though. All of Ubisoft’s new games can be played through Ubisoft+. So long as you’re a premium subscriber.

The game will launch by March 2025

Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t have a release date yet. However, it’ll be launching by March 2025 according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. That puts the game’s launch at up to nearly a year away, although it could potentially launch sooner. There’s also a chance Ubisoft will reveal an official launch date with the cinematic trailer this week. Given the game’s likely far-out launch, though, Ubisoft might save those details. At least until the launch date is closer.

Ubisoft also has another big game on the way with Star Wars Outlaws. Which is coming on August 30. Like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws won’t come to PS4 or Xbox One.
