February 2024 update is rolling out to Pixel Watch & Watch 2

AH Google Pixel Watch 2 Review (10)

Alongside Pixel phones, Google has also released the February 2024 security update for the Pixel Watch lineup. Both the first-gen and second-gen models are getting the latest monthly security patch. There are no other changes or new features in tow.

Pixel Watch lineup gets the February update with security patches

Google‘s February 2024 update for the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 comes with the firmware build number TWD9.240205.001. According to the official release notes, the update only brings the latest security patches. As usual, the company may have fixed several security flaws in Wear OS. You won’t see any functional changes or improvements on your watch, though.

As Google notes, this update will be available to all supported Pixel Watch devices running Wear OS 4. So, whether you use the Pixel Watch (GPS), Pixel Watch (LTE), Pixel Watch 2 (GPS), or Pixel Watch 2 (LTE), you will get it. However, since OTA (over the air) updates are rolled out in batches, it may take a while before the latest release reaches all eligible units globally.

Google says the rollout pace may depend on your carrier (for LTE models) and the region. The company expects to cover all units over the next week. You should get a notification once the update reaches your Pixel Watch. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your watch. Go to the System menu and tap on System updates to see if a new firmware build is available.

If you see the “Your watch is up to date” screen, you can try triggering the update by repeatedly tapping on the screen several times. This trick works more often than not. You can further speed up the download process by forcing the watch to a Wi-Fi connection. Go to Connectivity preferences in Settings and disable Bluetooth. If this trick doesn’t work on your Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2, wait a few days and try again.

The next update may bring new features

Google rolls out new feature updates to Pixel devices every three months. Called feature drops, these updates bring more than just the regular security patches. The last feature drop came in December 2023, so the company is due a new one in March. The Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 may also get new features with next month’s update. We will let you know when the rollout begins. You can follow the steps above to check for updates yourself.
