May update live for Galaxy S23, Fold 5 & Flip 5 in the US

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Review AM AH 11

Samsung‘s 2023 flagships are getting the latest security patch in the US. The May security update is rolling out to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The devices are also getting this update in some international markets. The company should soon cover all eligible units globally.

Samsung pushes May update to the Galaxy S23 and foldables in the US

Samsung has been relatively slow in rolling out the May security update to Galaxy devices. After releasing the new security patch for the Galaxy S24 series early in the month, the company spent much of the next two weeks pushing One UI 6.1 to eligible models. It recently shifted focus back to the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release).

The Galaxy S22 series picked up the update yesterday (yet to roll out in the US). Samsung is now updating the Galaxy S23 series and its latest foldables to the May patch. The update is available for carrier-locked units in the US, while some international versions are also picking it up. A global rollout should be right around the corner.

The May update for Samsung’s 2023 S series flagships comes with the firmware build number S91*USQS3CXD7 (carrier-locked units in the US). For the Galaxy Z Fold 5, it is F946USQS3CXE3, while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is getting the update with the build number F731USQS3CXE3. The May SMR is also available for the Fold model in India, where it’s getting the build number F946BXXS2CXE2.

Regardless of the build number, the latest update for these Galaxy devices has the same changelog. Samsung is pushing nothing more than this month’s 50-odd vulnerability patches, at least three of which are critical fixes. There seems to be no other addition, not even fixes for battery drainage issues that users have been complaining about following the One UI 6.1 update.

Samsung will soon update more devices to the May security patch

Samsung’s May SMR rollout is just starting to gain pace. The company updates several dozen Galaxy devices every month and it is not even halfway through it. You can expect many more Galaxy smartphones and tablets to join the party in the coming days. We will keep you posted accordingly. In the meantime, if you are a Samsung user, you can check for new updates on your own. Go to the Settings app and navigate to Software Update> Download and Install to check if you have pending updates.
