MediaTek announces Dimensity 7300 & Dimensity 7300X

MediaTek Dimensity 7300

Before Dimensity 9400, the Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek announced two new midrange chips – the Dimensity 7300 and Dimensity 7300X. Following the new trend, MediaTek has improved the artificial intelligence capabilities of these two new mid-range chips. It will enable better resource optimization, and network optimization, and improve the overall gaming experience. The Dimensity 7300X also supports dual displays, which means it could be a suitable choice for affordable foldable devices.

The Dimensity 7300 series equips more performance cores as compared to Dimensity 7050

Both the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 and Dimensity 7300X are fabricated on a 4nm process node and offer an octa-core CPU. It consists of 4 x Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.5GHz paired with 4 x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. For those unfamiliar, the Dimensity 7050 offered a (2+6) core architecture with 2 x Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz for demanding tasks and 6 x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2 GHz.

The new series also supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage for faster loading time and overall better experience.

For graphics, the chipsets are equipped with the latest Arm Mali-G615 GPU, which the company has enriched with a suite of its HyperEngine optimizations. This is aimed at accelerating the performance while gaming. The new series also offers “smart resource optimization”, and optimizes the 5G and WiFi connections for the best possible gaming experience. Both the chips support Bluetooth LE Audio technology with Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio.

According to the company, the Dimensity 7300 series offers 20% higher fps and 20% improvement in power efficiency. The 4nm process reportedly provides up to 25% lower power consumption in the A78 cores compared to the Dimensity 7050.

The new chips also offer better image processing for upcoming mid-range smartphones. The MediaTek Imagiq 950 features a premium-grade 12-bit HDR-ISP with support for a 200MP main camera. This is paired with precise noise reduction (MCNR), face detection (HWFD), and video HDR. With all of the above, the Dimensity 7300 series should enable users to capture stunning images and videos in any lighting condition.

Improvements in AI capabilities of the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 series

The Dimensity 7300 and Dimensity 7300X equip the MediaTek APU 655 which reportedly improves the power efficiency for AI-related tasks, which may help it better sustain the specific workloads besides conserving battery power.

As a result, the new series delivers a 2x improvement in AI performance as compared to the Dimensity 7050. Nonetheless, the implementation of AI-related features will depend upon the smartphone manufacturer.
