Shortly after AMD announced the launch of its next-gen Ryzen 9000 series processors at Computex 2024, MSI unveiled new motherboards for the chipsets. MSI’s X870 motherboard lineup boasts cutting-edge technologies, unlocking the full potential of the new Ryzen chipsets. The company will share price and availability details in due course.

AMD’s latest flagship desktop processors feature Zen 5 architecture, bringing a 16% boost in IPC (instructions per cycle/clock) performance. The lineup is headed by the Ryzen 9 9950X, which the company claims to deliver “the fastest consumer desktop performance in the world.” It has a 16-core CPU (32 threads) clocked at up to 5.7GHz, 80MB of total cache, Gen 5 PCIe, and 170W of TDP.

The lineup also includes the 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X (5.6GHz), the 8-core Ryzen 7 9700X (5.5GHz), and the 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X (5.4GHz). All four variants feature the Gen 5 PCIe. MSI says its X870 motherboards perfectly complement the new Ryzen 9000 processors. The solutions feature PCIe Gen 5.0 and M.2 slots, enabling superfast speeds for graphics cards and storage devices.

MSI’s X870 motherboards also boast USB 4 connectivity, offering speeds of up to 40GB per second. Additionally, the company has outfitted the MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI and PRO X870-P WIFI with cutting-edge 5G LAN, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4 technologies. No matter whether you are multitasking or gaming, your setup is equipped to handle your connectivity requirements with ease.

Along with power and performance, MSI has also focused on the ease of assembly. The company says the huge size and weight of GPUs can strain the motherboard. Hence, it is offering three additional anchor points and using a thicker material for the PCIe slots, making them 121% stronger than previous-gen solutions. The slots can withstand twice the weight of the graphics card than before.

MSI has also upgraded the Wi-Fi antenna module with a quick-release mechanism. Moreover, the M.2 SSD storage slot features a new Screwless design for effortless assembly and removal of storage chips. “A simple squeeze of the side latch” is enough to open the Screwless M.2 Frozr. “Installing is just as straightforward – a simple push locks the M.2 SSD in place, while removal requires only a slight pull to the left,” MSI said.

A market release should be just around the corner

AMD plans to open sales of the Ryzen 9000 series processors later this month. MSI may also release its X870 motherboard lineup around the same time so new PC shoppers can purchase all the components in one go. Precise price and availability details for the new chips and motherboards should follow soon. Stay tuned for more exciting product launches and announcements at Computex 2024.
