PS5 Community Game Help feature coming later this year

AH PS5

Sony has revealed a new feature coming to the PS5 called Community Game Help, and it’s likely everything you’re imagining just based on the name. It’s a feature that’s aimed at helping players with tips or short guides in video format, right on their PS5 console.

The feature will be able to automatically save game clips and other players will be able to access those clips if they get stuck. Set to be opt-in, Community Game Help would save game clips of key moments or events. Such as how to acquire a particularly tough trophy. Or finding that last secret chest location. Sony kind of offers something similar to those who subscribe to PlayStation Plus called Game Help, and it provides a similar end result.

Based on where players are in a game, there might be tips that pop up in a card when you hit the PS button on the controller. Some of these tips can even have game clips tied to them so you can see what to do. While others will simply give you a hint on how to proceed. One major difference is that Game Help currently requires PlayStation Plus. But that seems to be changing with this rollout.

“When the enhanced Game Help experience featuring content from the community launches, Game Help will be available to all PS5 players, with or without a PlayStation Plus subscription,” Sabrina Meditz, Senior Director of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment said in the official blog post.

The PS5 Community Game Help feature arrives later this year

Community Game Help doesn’t have a firm release date yet but Sony says it is coming in 2024. It’ll arrive later this year for select titles. Sony doesn’t mention specific games but it does confirm plans to expand it to more games down the line. Noting that it aims to bring the Community Game Help support to as many games as possible.

As noted above the feature will be opt-in too. So players won’t have to allow it if they don’t want to share clips. Sony says it’s possible to opt-out as well. So if you start sharing clips, you can change your mind, and then all those clips are removed.

Sony confirms that players don’t have to do anything with the footage either. Players who opt-in will only be contributing raw footage of the in-game moments. Then any published clips that Sony decides to use are edited by Sony. The company also says that save clips will not include audio from microphones, party chat, or webcams.
