Sony Xperia 1 VI display aspect ratio accidentally confirmed

AH Sony Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI renders

We knew that the Sony Xperia 1 VI would end up offering a wider display aspect ratio this time around, and now we know what exactly will it be. A media outlet in Japan has seemingly confirmed it, by accident.

The display aspect ratio of the Sony Xperia 1 VI has been confirmed… by accident

A user on Reddit spotted this, and while the article in which it has been confirmed has been removed, it’s still cached. The Sony Xperia 1 VI will have a 19.5:9 display aspect ratio, compared to 21:9 of the Xperia 1 V.

It is also worth noting that the company is moving away from a 4K display. This article says that Sony will move to a fullHD+ panel, though, and not a 2K panel as many people thought. We’ll have to wait and see.

Sony is moving away from extremely narrow devices, it would seem. What is kind of odd, though, is that the Xperia 10 VI is tipped to retain the 21:9 display aspect ratio. We’re not sure why is Sony doing that, but there you go.

A red-colored variant also leaked out

What also got shown in the aforementioned article is the red Xperia 1 VI. This model may not launch globally, though, as we haven’t seen it in a single leak thus far. Tons of renders of the Xperia 1 VI leaked out, but not the red one. That one could be exclusive to a Japanese carrier.

Other than the fact the phone will be wider and shorter thanks to a different aspect ratio, the design will look very similar to last year’s model. Sony is still clinging to this understated aesthetic that certainly appeals to some.

The sides will be flat all around, as will the phone’s front and back sides. The display won’t have a display camera hole on it or anything of the sort. Because of that, the top and bottom bezels will be a bit thicker than you may be used to.

You’ll also notice a familiar-looking camera design on the back. The Xperia 1 VI will have three vertically-aligned cameras in the top-left corner of its back. A camera shutter button will also be included, and placed on the right side, along with all the other physical buttons.

The Sony Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI will launch tomorrow, by the way.
