Today, xMEMs unveiled two new reference designs to help other companies build devices based on MEMs’ design. This, according to the company, will create a “clear and accelerated path” market based on its design.
MEMs is a company that specializes in both a semiconductor and audio brand that sells both types of products. It’s important to note that the company isn’t selling these as final products to listen to. It’s selling the reference designs that you can build your own devices based on. If you’re looking to design your own earbuds one day, this would be a great jumping-off point.
Harding 2-Way TWS
The first design is called the Harding 2-way TWS earbud design. This design includes the world’s smallest solid-state micro speaker, and that helps with the audio quality. These earbuds are designed to give you a great high-frequency response along with great clarity.
The Harding 2-Way TWS comes with custom-built 9mm drivers, and they’re designed to deliver some superior bass. That’s great for people who listen to more modern bass-heavy music. With this reference design, you’ll also get access to the Qualcomm Bluetooth Audio SoC that enables superior ANC (Active Noise Cancelation). There are three microphones on each bud for the ANC, so you won’t have to worry about technical limitations when implementing your noise cancelation.
Montara Plus Buds
Next, if you’re looking for a design with some powerful output, then you should look at the Montara reference design. According to XMEMs, these micro speakers have the highest output in the world with sound pressure levels of up to 120dB and 200Hz.
These are in-ear monitors that connect to devices via USB-C, so you’ll need to keep that in mind. Also, they have a hi-res embedded DAC from Synaptics, so you know that you’re dealing with high-quality hardware. Along with that, there’s a dedicated voice microphone that will make them great for making phone calls.
