Your Pixel Just Got a Whole Lot Smarter – And Safer!

google pixel feature drop june 2024

Google has just announced its newest Pixel Feature Drop, which includes bringing Gemini Nano to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a. It will be available as a developer option with this newest update.

The company is also adding Display Port support so that users can enjoy their favorite movies and TV shows on a larger screen by connecting a Pixel phone to another display using a USB-C cable. It’s just that simple. Google is also bringing reverse phone number lookup to the Phone app. So you can easily look up those annoying unknown callers.

The Recorder app is leveling up with a new “Summarize” feature. It will intelligently distill your recordings into detailed summaries, even identifying different speakers. And sharing is a breeze – export those transcripts as text files or directly into Google Docs. A bonus for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro owners: Find My Device is getting an upgrade, allowing you to locate your phone even if it’s powered down.

Pixel Watch gains Car Crash Detection in this Feature Drop

The Google Pixel Watch and Watch 2 are both gaining some new updates with this Feature Drop. This includes adding Car Crash Detection and Bicycle Fall Detection. The feature is able to make sure the user is okay, and it can dial emergency services and emergency contacts if needed. Fall Detection has also been updated to better detect falls from bicycles.

PayPal Wallet is also coming to Pixel Watch, allowing you to make payments with PayPal. Finally, the Google Home App is coming to Wear OS, including a new Wear OS Tile and watch face complications.

On the Pixel Tablet front, users will get more detailed doorbell notifications, giving you a snapshot of who is at your front door. This only works when the tablet is docked in hub mode and with compatible doorbells.

Finally, a few features dropping for the entire Pixel series. This includes HDR+ Improved Frame Selection. Now, Pixel cameras can automatically identify the best moment from your photo in HDR+. There’s also the Google Home favorites Widget, which is a brand new widget that gives you quick, customizable, smart home controls on your phone and tablet home screens.
