Call of Duty Black Ops 6 confirmed for Xbox Game Pass

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Xbox Game Pass

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been confirmed for Xbox Game Pass, with Microsoft having announced the first details in an official Xbox Wire blog post on May 28.

As reported by The Verge, Black Ops 6 coming to Microsoft’s gaming subscription service was accidentally leaked (by Microsoft) through the official Xbox Game Pass app on Android and iOS devices. The early announcement was made the same day. Prompting Microsoft to officially announce the news in the afternoon.

For Xbox Game Pass subscribers, this should be a big deal. Call of Duty is one of the biggest franchises in the world. And now what is consistently one of the most played first-person shooter games every year, won’t have to be purchased if you play on Xbox or PC. You can simply download the game for free on either platform if you have a Game Pass subscription. What will be interesting to see is what this does to the game’s sales numbers. Almost every year, Call of Duty is the highest-selling game worldwide.

But with it being free on Game Pass this year, that could change, and likely will to an extent. It’s unclear if the sales numbers will be greatly impacted. However, the numbers are sure to dip at least some. Given that two of the platforms where the game is available will no longer be required to buy it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be on Xbox Game Pass on day one

Almost more important than the Call of Duty franchise coming to Xbox Game Pass, is that it’ll be a day one title. Microsoft confirms that with a Game Pass subscription, you can play on launch day. Just like everyone else.

This shouldn’t be too surprising. Microsoft has done this many times before. With its biggest titles no less, like Starfield last Fall. It’s still a big deal though. For many people Call of Duty is an instant pre-order. Giving them early access to the campaign and other special goodies depending on the game edition they buy. The Game Pass availability on day one is going to change all that for many players. There may be fewer people playing the early access campaign, and waiting to dive in once the game drops on Game Pass.

Availability will be there for Console Game Pass and PC Game Pass

More good news for Game Pass subscribers. You’ll be able to play Black Ops 6 regardless of which version of the service you subscribe to. If you subscribe to Game Pass via your Xbox Series X, you’re good. If you subscribe to the PC Game Pass plan, you’re good too.

And of course, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate lumps both of those up together. So those who subscribe to Ultimate will have access to the game on both PC and consoles. Allowing them to freely switch between platforms if they want to. It’s not clear if the game will be available on the ‘Core’ plan. Microsoft hasn’t shared a whole lot of extra details about the game just yet.

But it does plan to reveal much more in the coming weeks. Following the Xbox Showcase on June 9, there will be a Direct entirely focused on Black Ops 6. So expect loads of features and gameplay details about the game over a 45-minute span.
