Samsung has started updating Galaxy devices to the June 2024 Android security patch. The new security release is currently rolling out to the Galaxy S24 series in the US and South Korea. The company should soon make the update available globally and expand coverage to other models.
The June security update is rolling out to the Galaxy S24
As of this writing, the June update is available for carrier-locked units of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in the US. The update comes with the firmware build number S92*USQS2AXE4. The Korean versions of the phones are getting it with the build number S92*NKSU2AXE4.
You might have noticed that it is the same build version (AXE4) in both regions. However, while the update only brings the latest security patch in the US, it contains additional fixes in South Korea. The sixth character from the last reveals that—security patches have “S” while other updates have “U”.
The official changelog supplied by Samsung doesn’t reveal what additional fixes the Galaxy S24 series is getting in Korea. However, the build version that Samsung is pushing to the devices is the same as the second May update for the Galaxy S24 Ultra released in Thailand. It fixed the weird rattling sound the phone made when it was moved quickly while recording videos.
The June update in Korea likely brings the same fix. The US versions probably didn’t have the issue, so Samsung only pushed the latest security fixes. This month’s Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for Galaxy devices patches nearly 60 vulnerabilities, including at least one critical flaw. These fixes should be available globally to all Galaxy S24 models within the next few days.
No camera improvements in tow
There have been rumors about Samsung rolling out a major camera update to the Galaxy S24 series in June. However, it may have been delayed. The initial June SMR release for the new flagships doesn’t contain any camera improvements. It is unclear if the company will roll out another update later this month or if we will have to wait until July.
The Galaxy S24 series is also rumored to get camera improvements with the One UI 6.1.1 update. The new One UI version will debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Fllip 6 next month. It may roll out to older eligible models in late July or early September. We will let you know when we have more information about the Galaxy S24’s rumored camera update.
