Samsung has released its One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series in the US. The two flagship lineups are getting several new features and improvements with this update, including some AI features from the Galaxy S24 series. The devices have already received the new One UI version in international markets.

Galaxy S22 and S21 grab Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update in the US

One UI 6.1 debuted on the Galaxy S24 series. Based on Android 14, the update introduced a plethora of AI features to Samsung’s flagship smartphones. The company promised to roll out the new features to older models depending on their compatibility. At the end of March, it updated all eligible 2023 flagships to One UI 6.1.

Samsung’s 2022 and 2021 flagship devices started getting the big update in early May. After an initial rollout in South Korea, the company expanded it to Europe yesterday. It wasted no time in bringing One UI 6.1 to the US versions of the Galaxy S22 Galaxy S21 phones. Both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the devices are picking up the update.

The new firmware build numbers for the Galaxy S22 series are S90*USQU4EXE1 (locked) and S90*U1UEU4EXE1 (unlocked). Those for the Galaxy S21 series are G99*USQUAGXDE and G99*U1UEUAGXDE, respectively. Samsung is still keeping the phones on the April security patch even though it has already released the May patch. We aren’t complaining, though. There is plenty to look forward to in this update.

The Galaxy S22 series is getting more AI features than the Galaxy S21. The 2022 flagships are picking up Circle to Search, Live Translate (of calls), Chat Assist (in Samsung Messages), AI Interpreter, Note Assist (in Samsung Notes), transcription and translation of voice recordings, Generative Edit (in Gallery), and more. The 2021 lineup is only getting Circle to Search.

There are more changes in One UI 6.1 than just AI features. The Galaxy S21 series is getting improved Battery Protection, the ability to move subjects from one image to another, and more enhancements. If you are using any of these devices in the US, watch out for a big update in the coming days. You can check for updates from the Software update menu in the Settings app.

The May security patch should follow soon

Samsung might soon roll out the May security patch to the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series. The latest security release is currently only available for the Galaxy S24 lineup. It brings over 55 vulnerability patches, including at least three critical Android OS fixes. We will let you know when Samsung pushes it to other Galaxy devices.
